Supporting healthy and active lifestyles
The Community Health Information Centre (CHIC) provides free health resources within the Community and Public Health region (Canterbury, South Canterbury and the West Coast). We distribute resources developed by Community and Public Health staff, and from other health agencies including:
- Ministry of Health
- the Cancer Society
- Te Hōtu Manawa Māori
- Family Planning and
- the Mental Health Foundation
The service has been operating since 1992, under several previous names such as 'Health Education' (Department of Health) and 'The Pamphlet Place' (Healthlink South).
Anybody who lives in the Canterbury (from Kaikoura to the Waitaki River) and West Coast regions can access our resource service.

It is hoped that in the future our customers could again be able to visit and view resources. We will update you on the progress towards this goal.
Resource orders can still be submitted via fax, email or online.
Thanks for your support and patience.

Your local CHIC has many types of resources available
Resources are either free or available for loan. Free resources include pamphlets, posters and stickers.
Prior to the February 2011 earthquake, CHIC had videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, educational kits, books and Ministry of Health documents available to loan. Fortunately some of these items were retrieved, and we are beginning to recreate some of the collection that was lost. We will keep you posted as to when and how the loan items will be made available for use by the community.
Ordering Free Pamphlets and Posters
Resources can be ordered by mail, fax, phone, email, online, or by visiting one of our centres.
